This rocky mountain range is located on the Isle of Skye. Also known as the Black Cuillin. this is mainly composed of basalt and gabbro. The sharp peaks rise up from the flatness of the surrounding terrain.
You can even hire a local guide if you don’t wanna tackle the mountain alone. Beautifully crafted footpaths now lead into the dramatic corries in little over an hour where the scale suddenly becomes apparent. The Cuillin have been a mecca for climbers, scramblers and walkers for over 150 years.
In fine weather, the rock is so rough that confidence grows rapidly and the whole range can seem like an enormous playground. By contrast, the rocks become greasy in the wet and can reduce even the most able of climbers to a crawl.
